DelVal Welcomes New Writing Center Coordinator
Sep 14, 2010
Dr. Ron DePeter, a new faculty member, has assumed the position of director of the DelVal writing center.
“Having served as writing center director and a faculty member at several universities, Dr. DePeter brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the DelVal Writing Center,” said Chair of English and Liberal Arts Dr. Jack Schmidt. “His research specialty is writing pedagogy so he is uniquely qualified to lead this key campus resource.”
Dr. DePeter is coming to DelVal from Southern New Hampshire University’s English department. He served as interim director of the Farnham Writers’ Center at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, and director of the writing center at Salem College in Winston Salem, N.C.
During his time at Salem College, DePeter taught a four-week course, “Happy Girl/Broken Wing,” that closely examined the song lyrics of country singer Martina McBride. The course gained heavy media attention and was the subject of an Associated Press article.
DePeter earned his Ph.D. in composition and rhetoric from Florida State University.
He takes over for Joann Donigan, who played an important role in the development of DelVal’s writing center in 1997 and devoted 13 years to turning the center into a valuable campus resource.
