Small, cohort-style classes allow students to build lasting relationships not only with their faculty but fellow students with similar passions and professional goals.

Jocelyn Balan, Class of 2023
Class of 2023
Jocelyn Balan

Specialization: Child and Adolescent

Why Jocelyn chose a career in counseling?I chose to pursue a career in counseling psychology because I am passionate about helping others. I think that it is important to advocate for yourself and for those who cannot do it themselves. I would like to open my own private practice one day. I want to use my bilingual (English/Spanish) skills in counseling to help others who may feel more comfortable sharing their life experiences in their first language.”

Why Jocelyn values the cohort-based structure of DelVal’s program:The graduate program’s cohort-structure allows the students to build more personal relationships and it becomes like a small family. We encourage one another to strive for the best to accomplish our goals.”

Hannah’s internship and practicum work: “During my practicum, I provided individual counseling to clients for substance use and mental health-related issues. For my internship, I will be leading group counseling sessions and working with clients for individual and career counseling.”

Why did Hannah choose DelVal? “I liked the cohort model, small class sizes, and I felt connected to the staff and faculty after meeting with them.”

Andrea Kirsch, Class of 2021
Class of 2021
Andrea Kirsch

Practicum Experience: Malvern Institute

Internship Experience: Gwynedd Mercy University Counseling Center

Specialization: Social Justice Community Counseling

Why Andrea chose a career in counseling: “For as far back as I can remember, I have always liked helping people overcome obstacles and reach their goals. Prior to starting this graduate program, I was fortunate to do so as a Human Resources professional, Licensed Esthetician, and makeup artist. I decided to pursue my master’s in counseling because I view counseling as helping people in more profound, life-changing ways.” Andrea looks forward to graduating in 2021 and becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and specialize in adoption-related trauma and other related issues such as identity, abandonment, loss, grief, and attachment

Why did Hannah choose DelVal? “After having gone to a large university for undergrad, I liked everything about the program’s cohort model. I was also drawn to the resources available to students, like the psychology lab. After I met some of the faculty/staff during my interview, I knew it was where I wanted to be.”
