Laci Olivia, a graduating senior at Delaware Valley College, is hosting her third annual fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation May 3 at 4 p.m. on the College quad. The event is open to the public. Last year’s event helped send a local girl to Hawaii. This year, she is aiming to raise $2,000 to help send a 9-year-old boy to Disney World.

Make-A-Wish brings hope to children with life threatening medical conditions by granting wishes. The organization started with one boy with leukemia’s wish to be a police officer and has grown to an organization that has been able to reach more than 250,000 children around the world.

“I just want to encourage everyone to come to this event. This is not only my last large event here at DelVal, but this is giving everyone on campus a chance to be a part of something much more, a wish for a 9-year-old boy to go to Disney,” said Olivia. “That itself should be enough for the entire campus to come.  It has been such a great honor to be able to host events to help others in the community. I am glad that DelVal has given me the opportunity to "Make-A-Wish" for children.

On May 3 in the quad at 4 p.m., Laci will be holding Wrestle For A Wish, a JELL-O wrestling competition. The competition has a strict dress code and participants are required to wear t-shirts and shorts. It is $2 to wrestle and $10 for a t-shirt.

She will also be raising funds and sharing information about the goal leading up to her May event. At A-Day, an annual fair which runs April 26-28 at the College, Olivia will be having a table with information where she will be taking donations for Make-A-Wish. She also will be selling baked goods to help reach her goal at the table. A-Day guests can also purchase paper Mickey hands to write their names on at the table to help her reach her goal.

A Mickey Mouse-themed display in the cafeteria will go up Thursday, April 25 showing progress toward the goal. Students will be able to purchase paper Mickey hands in the cafeteria.

The College’s Zeta Chi chapter and Eric Zimmerman '16, and Jade Orth '15, have been helping Olivia with the fundraiser this year.

After she graduates from DelVal, Olivia will attend Auburn University’s graduate program in poultry science.
