Delaware Valley University is pleased to announce a new award in honor of its founder, Dr. Joseph Krauskopf. The inaugural Krauskopf Medal will be awarded on Thursday, April 27. Nominations are due by Jan. 31, 2017.

"DelVal's founder, Rabbi Joseph Krauskopf, was a man of deep conviction and a tireless community organizer; a visionary, who was clearly ahead of his time," said Dr. Bashar Hanna, DelVal's former vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty. "His words, 'science with practice,' still guide DelVal's academic programs."

Dr. Krauskopf, who lived from 1858 to 1923, addressed issues decades before many of his contemporaries. He spoke publicly on issues such as: civil rights, poor living conditions, poverty, child labor, environmental conservation, housing, and equal employment. The campus library, which is named in honor of Dr. Krauskopf, includes a memorial room with the founder's original book collection and desk.

To honor the legacy and works of Dr. Krauskopf, the University is introducing the Krauskopf Medal. The award will honor the outstanding contributions of individuals or, organizations that embody the spirit of DelVal's founder. To be nominated, a person must have had a positive impact on society in at least one of the  following areas: agriculture and food systems, human and civil rights, social justice, child labor, conservation and sustainability, poverty, educational and employment equity, and quality of life issues. Nominees can be from any geographic location, but should be able to come to campus on April 27 to receive the award.

The Krauskopf Medal will be awarded once a year, but it need not be conferred annually. After nominations are received, a selection committee of faculty, administration, staff, and students will recommend candidates for the Medal to the president and Board of Trustees, who will make the final decision.
