Author Seamus McGraw to Present ‘Good Guy with a Gun’

With mass shootings and tragic incidents of gun violence impacting the U.S., gun control has become a highly debated topic. Author Seamus McGraw will visit Delaware Valley University to present “Good Guy with a Gun,” a lecture on gun violence. The event will be held on Monday, April 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Life Sciences Building auditorium. All are welcome and there is no cost to attend. Guests do not need to register in advance.

The title of the lecture comes from McGraw’s interview with Wayne Lo, a shooter who is serving time for killing two people at Bard College at Simon’s Rock in 1992.

“I asked him if a ‘good guy with a gun’ would have stopped him,” said McGraw.

McGraw said Lo replied, “I thought I was the good guy with the gun.”

McGraw said this interaction goes to the heart of the reporting in his new project on gun violence. He said the work looks into myths about gun control and how they have been used. The book he is currently working on will look at mass shootings from 1966 through gunman Stephen Paddock and the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting.

McGraw is a Pennsylvania resident and an award-winning author and journalist. He is the author of the critically-acclaimed “The End of Country: Dispatches from the Frack Zone,” and “Betting the Farm on a Drought: Stories from the Front Line of Climate Change.” He has been a regular contributor to many publications, including The New York Times, HuffPost, Popular Mechanics, Reader’s Digest, The Forward, and more.
