Assistant Professor, Biology

Dr. Laurie Mauger is committed to undergraduate teaching and works to provide students with challenging, rewarding, engaging and inclusive educational experiences. She values the opportunity to see students grow personally and intellectually, and finds renewed passion for teaching when she sees them make meaningful connections, gain confidence and apply their learning beyond the classroom.

Mauger earned her Ph.D. from Drexel University in 2010 under the direction of Dr. James Spotila. Her dissertation research focused on the ecology, population genetics and conservation of American crocodiles (Crocodylus acutus) in Costa Rica. Since completing her degree, she has taught at a variety of undergraduate institutions, from primarily undergraduate to R1 institutions, with a consistent focus on teaching and mentorship. In recent years, Mauger has served as a curriculum developer and project manager for a USAID-funded contract, the STEM Teacher Education and School Strengthening Activity (STESSA). In this role, she has helped develop student-centered curricula for STEM teacher preparation programs at five large universities in Egypt. Mauger also integrates real-world scenarios into her own courses, connecting complex biological concepts to everyday life to help students deepen their understanding.
