Leadership at DelVal

The word leadership means different things to different people. The programming at Delaware Valley University reflects that with the aim to provide students with various opportunities throughout their time at DelVal. The university is committed to developing the leaders of tomorrow, and it takes different leadership models to do that well. At DelVal, our students will find many programs that cover their needs.

Catalyst is a program for first-year students at DelVal who are learning the basics of how to lead. The program, facilitated by Leadershape Inc., focuses on students discovering their passions and how to translate them into action. There’s no better time to do this than when starting the university experience.

The Presidential Fellows are upper-level students viewing leadership from the frame of the Student Leadership Challenge by Kouzes and Posner. The Student Leadership Challenge is based on five basic practices, and the Presidential Fellows work with Cabinet-level mentors to hone their leadership skills.

The E360 Program fosters leadership development for students in positional leadership roles at DelVal. The Leadership Development activity allows students to reflect on their roles in a club or group so they can determine how they can best serve their peers and group members.

Finally, President and Treasurer Training occurs for all presidents and treasurers of clubs and organizations. With over 75 clubs and organizations at DelVal, it takes a lot of students to lead them. To ensure that all clubs and organizations run smoothly, the Office of Student Involvement and the Student Government Board work with and train presidents and treasurers in their positional leadership roles.

We work with our students to support their personal leadership development, since leadership is a skill that a person can continually hone at DelVal.
