How to Successfully Close Out Your First Semester at DelVal

Posted on November 10, 2015 by Delaware Valley University.

As we move closer to the end of the calendar year and the beginning of a new one, Delaware Valley University students are closing in on the end of their fall semester. This means that exams, final projects and grades (GASP!) are on the way, and you need to end the semester and year on a high note.

To help you feel content with the end of your first semester, DelVal has compiled a list of tips that you can use to close out the year on a high note. Read on to learn how you can successfully close out your first semester at DelVal.

Understand Where You Are Academically
As you go into the second half of your first semester, you’ll find that a lot of classes put a stronger emphasis on how final projects and exams will affect your grade and GPA. For that reason, it’s important for students to recognize where they stand academically in all of their classes. If you know what your grade is going into a final exam, you can estimate what grade you need to earn in order to end with the GPA you want. Knowing where you stand in a class will also help you to determine whether you’ve missed any assignments that you can turn in late to receive some credit.

Attend Office Hours
Meeting with your professors is one of the best ways to solidify where you stand in a class and to learn what you can expect during the final weeks. Going through your syllabus will help you to prepare, and looking back through the material that you covered will help you to understand any subjects that you may have questions about or misunderstood. Attending office hours will ensure that you know how your classes will end so you can effectively prepare.

Focus and Avoid Distractions
You’re almost at the finish line of your first semester, so now is the time to buckle down and focus on what you need to accomplish to end the semester on a high note. Prioritize your essays and exam studying time over socializing or relaxing. Over winter break is when you’ll have plenty of time away from the books and course subjects. But for now, focus on accomplishing your goals and finishing your first semester at DelVal strong.

It’s easy to become anxious at this time of year, when the first semester for DelVal students is ending. But by following through on the good practices discussed above, you’ll be in prime position to end your first semester on a high note and reach the goals that you set for yourself. Focus on studying, meet with your professors and know what you have to do to get the grade you want, and you’ll be content with the outcome of your first semester at DelVal.v
