Making the Most of Your Spring Break: 4 Ways to Maximize Your Time Off and Still Have Fun

Posted on March 4, 2016 by Delaware Valley University.

Spring break is a great time to unwind from classes and projects at Delaware Valley University and enjoy the upcoming season. You want to make sure that you take advantage of the time that you have off, though. Instead of vowing to watch old reruns of your favorite TV show, come up with a plan of some activities you can do that are meaningful and will benefit you even after the break is over.

There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer, and giving back during your time off will help you feel great while also helping people or a cause that really needs it. Scope out local soup kitchens, animal shelters or food pantries or contact Habitat for Humanity to see what you can do over the week.

You'll feel good about brightening someone's day and providing something they really need, and you'll get more out of your spring break than you would have if you hadn't volunteered.

School Work

Doing school work may not be at the top of your things-to-do-over-break list, but it could really benefit you. If you know you have a big project due or an important exam schedule soon after classes start again, it's wise to use your time off to get a head start on your assignments.

Meet with a Tutor

If there's been a certain class or subject area that you've struggled with over the past few weeks, use your spring break to get some extra help. Find a tutor and set up a couple sessions with him or her over the course of the week.

School work may not be exciting, but it will be worth it to get a better understanding of a subject you've had trouble with. You'll go back to school after break feeling more accomplished and also get better grades in the class.

Explore Local Hiking Trails

Use your break from classes to get some fresh air and enjoy nature. Find some local hiking trails that you can explore on a nice day. Grab some friends and hit the gravel. You'll be able to enjoy their company while getting some exercise and taking in the sights you don't get to every day.

Spend Time with Friends and Family

If you go home for spring break, you'll be able to spend time with friends and family that you don't usually have the opportunity to see. Schedule time to catch up with old friends and talk with family members while you're in the area.

Don't waste your spring break! Take advantage of your time off by choosing activities that will be beneficial to you; you'll be happier for it. Click here for more college tips from DelVal.
