Frequently
Asked Questions
When will I receive a Housing Package?
| |
In June the
Office of Residence Life sends out Housing Packages
to all students who requested in their application that
they wish to reside on campus. |
What's in a Room?
| |
The following
items are found in every room:
- Bed & Mattress—extra long (36x80)
- Wardrobe or Closet
- Desk and Chair
- Phone w/ access to campus voice mail system
- Micro-Fridge system
|
How does the Room Selection Process work for New Students?
| |
Students must fill out
and return the Housing Preference Form that is included
in the Housing Package. Residence Life begins by matching
students based upon the information provided on the
Housing Preference Form. Once this has been completed
Housing Confirmation Packages go out. Included in the
package is the following:
- Roommate Assignments
- Housing Assignments
- Move in schedule
- Welcome Week Schedule
|
How do we match roommates?
| |
Students are matched based
on their responses on the housing preference form. Roommate
matching is not an exact science; we do our best to
place students together. Sometimes things work out and
sometimes it does not. If students are requesting a
specific roommate, they should do so at the time that
they are filling out the Housing Preference Form. Roomate
switches may occur after the first two weeks of school. |
Will I have a choice as to where I want to live?
| |
Students will
have an option to live in a Substance Free Living Environment
– Samuel Hall 2nd. Substance Free is a place where
students can live knowing that all students living on
the floor are committed to a Substance Free Life. If
a student is found violating the rules of the floor
they will be moved to another hall or floor.
|
How is this different from Smoke Free?
| |
All residence
halls are smoke-free. Substance-free halls have a zero
tolerance policy on drugs and alcohol. |
What if I have Special Needs?
| |
Students requiring
special housing needs, due to health and wellness conditions,
need to notify the Office of Residence Life to discuss
needs. |
What if I am a Transfer Student?
| |
We ask that
all transfer students fill out the Housing Preference
Form. Every attempt will be made to place you in upper-class
facilities. If space becomes limited we will place you
in freshman facilities with another transfer or returning
students. Once room becomes available we will move you
from your room in freshman housing into upper-class
facilities. |
What was the Micro-Fridge thing that I saw in student's
rooms during my tour?
| |
Delaware Valley
College now supplies a Micro-Fridge Unit in every residence
hall room. Students may not bring a microwave or refrigerator
with them when they arrive at school. This applies to
transfer and returning students. You may still be wondering
what is the benefit of a Micro-Fridge Unit; well this
unit combines a microwave, a refrigerator and a freezer
into one unit. This unit uses less electricity than
all three separately, while taking up less space. |
Is there a phone in my room?
| |
Yes, all students’
rooms are equipped with a phone and every student will
be given a voice mail box within the campus phone center
that can be accessed anywhere on campus. Your phone
number will be provided to you when you receive your
Housing Assignment. |
Can I bring my Computer with me?
| |
Yes, all rooms
are equipped with computer jacks that will allow students
to have access to the campus network. For specifications
and questions regarding Information Services please
refer to the section in the Orientation Package labeled
Information Services. |
We ask that you and your parents take time to review the
Housing Package. If you have any questions regarding anything
please feel free to contact the Office of Residence Life at
215-489-2215.
