FAQ

Q. What are the hours of the Health Center?

A. During the academic year, the Health and Wellness Center is open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (no Saturday hours)  For holiday and other break periods, please call the Student Health Center at 215-489-2252 for specific hours.

Q. Are the SHC services free?

A. Yes. With a few exceptions, there is no charge to students for services.

Q. Can I just walk in and be taken care of?

A. Yes. All patients who walk in will be seen and evaluated by a nurse.

Q. Do I have to make an appointment to see a health care provider?

A. The nurse will make an appointment for you, if necessary. Call the Health Center at x2252 on campus or 215-489-2252 off campus.

Q. Are GYN services available?

A. Yes. Gynecological services are available by appointment during the academic year. Planned Parenthood provides gynecologic care at the Health Center on Mondays during the academic year from 1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. To make an appointment, call x2252 on campus or 215-489-2252 off campus.

Q. Are excuses issued for missed classes or exams?

A. No. Medical excuses covering absence from class or any other academic requirement are not issued by the Health Center. Students are encouraged to contact their professors directly regarding missed class/assignments.

Q. Is there a doctor available?

A. Yes. A doctor or physician's assistant is available during the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. If needed, an appointment can be made with a doctor after standard hours.

Q. How long do I have to wait to be seen?

A. Most patients will have an initial evaluation within 15 minutes of arriving at the Health Center.

Q. Are lab and x-ray services available?

A. The Health and Wellness Center can provide a limited number of laboratory tests. It is your responsibility to check with your parents to make sure you do not need a referral from your family doctor in order to have tests done here without incurring extra expenses.
X-ray services are not available on campus. Orders for x-rays can be written by the Health Center providers and then performed at Doylestown Hospital. Again, it is the responsibility of the student to check with their insurance company prior to having the x-ray.

Q. Can I get a prescription filled at the Health Center?

A. No. Prescriptions written by outside physicians cannot be filled at the Health Center. The SHC staff may be able to help with certain prescriptions needed, but this will be on an individual basis.

Q. Are my records confidential? Will my parents know about the nature of my visit?

A. Medical records are strictly confidential. Records are released only with the student's written consent. Please see our Privacy Notice.
