Costs
Housing Charges
**All summer employment positions will be designated either “Essential” or “Non-Essential.” The Student Employment Coordinator in the Financial Aid Office can share the classification assigned to your summer position.**
- Non-essential student employment positions, students taking classes, or students working for an OCLE position:
The charge for summer housing is $149 per week, and will be charged to your student account.- Students who are only taking classes may reside in summer housing ONLY for sessions that they are registered for.
- Students who move in after July 1, 2010 will be charged $156 per week due to the start of a new fiscal year.
- Essential student employment positions:
A student working during the summer in an Essential Position will be offered housing as a taxable benefit. This housing is not free – a taxable housing benefit is applied as follows: your student account will be charged the summer housing fee; when processed, you will receive a housing fee waiver to credit your account for the same value of the housing fee. The value of summer housing is equivalent to the summer housing charge. Should your employment be terminated for any reason prior to the end of the summer, you will be charged for any weeks you remain in summer housing.- The value of summer housing will be added to total taxable income in every paycheck for the summer. This means that the college will withhold taxes from your paycheck based on whatever your hourly wages are PLUS the value of summer housing. { Net Pay = [Hourly Wages] – [Taxes on hourly wages] – [Taxes on housing] }
- BEFORE accepting a taxable housing benefit, it is recommended that you consult with the Financial Aid Office to determine if/how the additional compensation will affect your financial aid package for the following terms.
- Summer class discount:
There will be no discount on summer classes for any students for the summer 2010 terms.
Damage Deposit
Summer residents are required to pay a $100.00 damage deposit no later than 4:30pm, Friday, April 30, 2010. The damage deposit must be paid to the Bursar’s Office by check, cash, money order, or credit card. At the end of the summer, all summer rooms will be inspected for damages. Any charges resulting from these damage inspections will be taken from the damage deposit, and any remaining deposit will be refunded. Should damage charges exceed $100, the balance will be charged to your student account.
Flex and Dining Options
There are no meal plans provided during the summer months, and Levin Dining Hall is not available.
Summer Flex money can be placed on your ID card for use at Schatzy’s Food Court during the summer. For every increment of $25.00 that you place on your flex account, you will receive 10% Bonus Flex Dollars. The Food Court will be open starting Monday, May 17, 2010, and is open each week of the summer Monday-Friday, 8:30am – 1:30pm.
There is a frozen food vending machine (cash only) available in summer housing for microwaveable items and ice cream.

Summer Housing Policies
Summer housing is a privilege. All policies and expectations are in effect as outlined in the 2009-2010 Student Handbook. Failure to abide by these policies and expectations may result in your loss of summer housing. Summer students will be housed in South Hall Phase II, which will remain substance free during the summer. Possession or use of alcohol or any illicit drug or controlled substance is not allowed in South Hall by any resident regardless of age.
The Residence Life Office reserves the right to cancel any on-campus summer housing assignment if a student is no longer working in an on-campus position, is no longer enrolled in a current summer session, stops participating in an approved and registered Employment Program position, or otherwise fails to meet all required criteria. Once a housing assignment is cancelled, the student will be expected to move out of Summer Housing within 48 hours.
