DELAWARE VALLEY COLLEGE NAMED IN TOP 25 OF NATION'S TURF SCHOOLS
DOYLESTOWN, Pa., -- (September 19, 2007) - Delaware Valley College was named among the nation's top 25 turf schools by TurfNet.com and TurfNet Magazine, a membership organization, Web network and publication for golf course supervisors nationwide.
DelVal's Turf Program was ranked number 23 amongst schools that offer a bachelor's degree in turf management, designed to prepare students for careers in the golf course, sports turf, and lawn care industries. Delaware Valley College was recognized because of its small class size, diverse facilities, 100 percent job placement, and a student-run Turf Club. Program majors use the college's campus for hands-on learning and the College boasts more than 500 acres of outdoor laboratory space including a putting green, sports fields, lawns, woodlands, wetlands and farmlands.
"We were named against major agricultural programs like numbers 1 and 2 North Carolina State University and Penn State," said Professor Doug Linde. "We have graduated more than 80 in the 12 years since this program has existed and our graduates are supervisors and field managers at some of the nation's top golf courses and sports field complexes". Of the institutions listed, Delaware Valley College is the only private college. "The College is truly unique in that it is the only small school at which a student can get a four-year degree in turf management".
Other institutions on the list included Virginia Tech, Michigan State University, Ohio State University, Rutgers University and more. For more information or to read the TurfNet The Magazine issue featuring these schools, visit http://www.delval.edu/agronomy/TurfPages/TopTurfSchools.pdf

DELAWARE VALLEY COLLEGE TO HOST CONCERT OF MUSIC FROM MEDIEVAL SPAIN
DOYLESTOWN, Pa., -- (September 12, 2007) - Delaware Valley College will open its 2007 Visiting Artist Series with a performance by the Texas-based early-music ensemble, Istanpitta, at 3 p.m., Sunday, September 30 in the College's Student Center Auditorium.
Tickets for the Delaware Valley Artist Series concerts are $12 for general admission and $10 for students and senior citizens.
Performing on replicas of medieval instruments such as the vielle, chittara, harp and recorder, the ensemble will lead audience members on a musical pilgrimage throughout medieval Spain. The music is characterized by a rare fusion of the three dominant Spanish religious cultures present during the period, namely, Christianity, Judaism and Islam.
The program will include settings from the well-known Cantigas de Santa Maria, a compilation of 427 songs in honor of the Virgin Mary. One of the most historically important song repertories from the Middle Ages, the Cantigas include songs of praise, songs describing important historical incidents, moralistic songs, political satires, as well as songs describing the many miracles attributed to the Virgin. The miracles recorded are not exclusive to Christians, but also involve both Moors and Jews alike.
Istanpitta was founded in 1994 at the University of Texas and has received national attention for their critically acclaimed performances of medieval music and dance.
