International Study and Travel Programs

Misconceptions About Studying Abroad

1. I won't graduate on time.

If you plan carefully, you can still graduate with the rest of your class. Some opportunities are short-term commitments (over spring break or part of the summer break), while the longer courses can be arranged for transfer credit.

2. I can't afford it.

Some of the shorter trips are no more expensive than a good vacation, and the benefits make them more than worthwhile. Semester studies can cost about the same as you would pay to stay at Delaware Valley College.

3. I'll miss my friends.

With the advent of e-mail, instant messaging and international calling cards, it is very easy to stay in touch. In addition, you will make many new friends in other countries, some of whom may end up as life-long connections. You'll be able to visit them, and they can visit you, opening an entire new realm of vacation opportunities.

4. I only speak English.

Many of the international programs are conducted in English. The short trips are led by Delaware Valley College faculty, who will ensure your ability to get the most from your experience.

5. My time would be better spent in an internship.

With the global markets of today, it is very valuable to an employer for you to have international experience. Corporations are always looking for new employees who can ease their entry into new markets.

6. I don't have any time.

After you graduate and are working, often with other responsibilities, you probably will have little time for travel. Experience the world now, with all of the accompanying benefits, so that later in life you won't regret the missed opportunity.
