Equine Studies
Leasing/Donating A Horse
Our general protocol for reviewing horses for donations and leases is as follows:
- We ask the owner to make a short video showing the horse on the flat and over a course of 2'6"-3' fences. Also, please include a brief bio with age, breed, sex, any lameness issues, any stable vices, any supplements or medications that the horse is currently being fed or given and any other pertinent information.
- The Equine Studies faculty members review the video together and determine if the horse appears suitable for the program at that specific time.
- If the horse does appear suitable, an Equine Studies faculty member may come ride the horse where it is currently stabled (with the owner's permission), or we may ask that the horse be trailered to our campus for a trial ride.
- Horses that appear suitable after being tested by instructors then come to the Equestrian Center for a trial period, following which the horse is re-assessed and the donation or lease is then finalized (if all goes well).
