English Department

Welcome

Greetings from the English Department at Delaware Valley College! We want to take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in Delaware Valley College and invite you to continue your academic career at DelVal. Although many colleges and universities advertise their commitment to student development, we at Delaware Valley College pride ourselves on being a teaching institution in the best sense of the word. Unlike universities where professors devote the vast majority of their time to personal research projects, and graduate assistants teach the majority of freshman and sophomore courses, the English faculty at Delaware Valley College is dedicated to quality classroom teaching. Although all of our faculty members are active writers and researchers, our primary goal is the academic development of our students. Each member of the department seeks to create the type of active learning environment where students can pursue their individual academic interests. Whether you decide to major in English Literature or Media and Communication, you can be assured that Delaware Valley College will provide the type of educational experience that will allow you to enter the work force with the skills necessary to achieve your professional goals.

Majors within the English Degree

Students may choose to major in English Literature or in Media and Communication. Students should discuss their goals and interests with their advisor in order to design the curriculum best suited for them. Additionally, students may choose to minor in English or pursue an English Education degree, which, upon completion, allows them to teach English at the secondary level in Pennsylvania.
