Career Day Information
March 20th, 2013
11am-2:30pm
Moumgis Auditorium
What's this all about?
Career Day is an opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with prospective employers regarding current and future employment opportunities. It can help connect you with employers seeking full time, part-time, internship/co-op, and summer opportunities. Career Day brings recruiters onto campus to meet with DelVal students from all classes. Recruiters come from business and industry. The day is specifically for DelVal students and alumni; it is not open to the public.
What should I bring?
- A professional folder/binder with an appropriate number of resumes, e.g. if you plan on talking with 5 companies, bring 10-12 copies to be safe.
- A pen to write notes.
- Women can bring a small handbag.
- Portfolio: this is not necessary, but if you have a professional portfolio that showcases your work, abilities and accomplishments, you may want to bring it (especially certain majors like landscape design, where a sample of your previous work may be required). However, since time is limited for recruiters, always ask first if it is an appropriate time to display your portfolio.
What should I wear?
All students are expected to dress in industry appropriate attire. This does not necessarily mean that you are required to wear a business suit, although it is strongly encouraged. However, jeans, tee shirts and sweatshirts with logos are not acceptable attire.

Why should I attend Career Day?
You might get a job or internship, but you can also get valuable career assistance. By talking with recruiters, you can make industry contacts and get helpful information.
- Contacts. Even if a company does not list openings in your field, investigate what opportunities they do have to offer. Remember, companies do not always just need people with degrees in their specific field. For example, large landscaping companies have the need for accountants and business managers as well as trained horticulturalists.
- Information. You can obtain gemeral information about the industry/occupation as well as specific information about organizations.
What if I have scheduled classes?
Career Day is not an automatically excused absence, but check with your professors. In the past, many professors have allowed an excused absence for Career Day attendance.
