Students participate in the 2010 Pennsylvania Farm Show

Jan 21, 2010

The Delaware Valley College Dairy exhibited 4 Holsteins, 2 Ayrshires, and 1 Jersey animal at this year's Farm Show. Student workers employed by the Dairy were responsible for the day to day care of animals as well as preparing them for the showring. Dairy superintendents Todd Webb and Darrin Mayer along with students Tori Fanion, Alicia Hoke, TaraLee Fulmer, Aubrey Swanson, and Cole Brantner had an exciting week preparing the cattle for exhibition and talking to DelVal alumni and prospective students. Highlights of the show string included placing 1st with their 2-yr-old Ayrshire and 2nd with their 3-yr-old Holstein.

DelVal was also very fortunate to have 2 individuals receive 2010 Farm Show scholarships for their previous participation in 4-H, FFA, and Farm Show activites. Receving scholarships were Chad Menges, a sophomore Ag. Business major and Caralynn Hyduke, a sophomore Animal Science major.

The 2010 Agriculture Ambassadors Junior Kim Bergen and Sophomore Darla Romberger represented DelVal at the Farm Show Opening Ceremonies on Saturday morning. These individuals also assisted throughout the week at the DelVal booth in the Main Exhibition Hall with representatives from DelVal Admissions, Continuing Education, and the A-Day organization.

There were also individuals who participated in Livestock Exhibitions throughout the week. Freshman Adam Daub exhibited Beef Cattle, Sophomore Chad Menges exhibited a market goat (and qualified for the Youth Sale), and Sophomore Darla Romberger exhibited Boer goats for the Junior and Open Breeding Meat Goat shows.
