Jun 26, 2009
Delaware Valley College awarded student Matthew D. Nehoda with a $2000 Thomas W. Watson Executive-in-Residence scholarship in honor of Richard Reif, President and Chief Executive Officer of Doylestown Hospital. Nehoda, of Easton, PA, is a junior majoring in accounting.
Reif spoke recently at the college and met with finance and management classes as well as with several student organizations as part of the Thomas W. Watson Executive-in-Residence Program, which was established in 2005 to bring worldwide business leaders to Delaware Valley College. Reif's experience as head of a major regional hospital afforded students the opportunity to learn from both a health care industry professional and community leader.
Thomas W. Watson, Vice Chairman Emeritus and Dean of Omnicom University and founder of the Executive in Residence Program, is a graduate of the Delaware Valley College class of 1957. Watson values the learning that happens in the classroom and understands the world experience an Executive-in-Residence can bring to a classroom discussion, public lecture or workshop for students, thus enhancing the overall learning environment. Interacting with a Watson Executive-in-Residence offers Delaware Valley College students a chance to learn about the current trends, ideas and emerging issues influencing the world economy in a variety of industries and provides networking opportunities.
In addition to learning about a particular business or industry, students gain added insight from Watson Executives-in-Residence as they share their own personal career stories and executive skills development.
Past Executives-in-Residence have included: Pamela Sander, president of Zumbro River Brand Inc., a contract food manufacturer; Howard Stoeckel, Chief Executive Officer of Wawa, Inc.; JM Herr, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Herr Foods Inc., makers of snack foods including potato chips, pretzels and corn chips; Phillip Clemens, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Clemens Family Corporation and Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and board member of Clemens company, subsidiaries including Hatfield Quality Meats and Wild Bill's Foods, among others; and Charles J.
