Football: Four Aggies Named ECAC Southeast All-Stars

Jan 07, 2009

Four Delaware Valley College football players were recently named to the 2008 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Southeast All-Star Team: sophomore linebacker Kyle Gesswein (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), junior quarterback Mike Isgro (Galloway, NJ/Absegami), junior cornerback Charles Squitiere (Philadelphia, PA/Roman Catholic) and senior offensive tackle Ralph Stambaugh (Westminster, MD/Francis Scott Key).

The quartet add to their postseason honors, as each earned a spot on the all-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) first team and were also members of the All-East Region Team.

Gesswein set a school single-season record with 11.5 sacks and also topped the team in tackles for losses (22) and total tackles (105). Gesswein also notched four forced fumbles, three blocked kicks and two fumble recoveries.

Isgro, who was the 2008 MAC Offensive Player of the Year, completed 144 of 265 passes for 1,787 yards, 21 touchdowns and just five interceptions. He also rushed for 366 yards and two scores on 107 carries.

Squitiere led Delaware Valley with six interceptions for 118 yards and one touchdown. He also racked up 41 tackles and five pass breakups.

A honorable mention All-American, Stambaugh did not allow a sack all season and spearheaded an offensive line that helped the Aggies average 25.3 points and 333.5 yards per game.

Delaware Valley posted an 8-3 overall record, earned a share of the MAC championship and took home the ECAC South Atlantic Bowl title with a 16-7 victory over Kean University.
