Delaware Valley College President Dr. Joseph Brosnan was elected to the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania (AICUP) Board of Directors at the organization’s annual meeting on March 31. He has been chosen to serve as the AICUP government relations liaison for a 3-year term, which began officially on July 1. As government relations liaison, Dr. Brosnan serves as the main point of contact for the Board regarding the state and federal policy agenda for the 88 private colleges and universities who are members of AICUP.
“It is an honor to welcome Dr. Joseph Brosnan to the AICUP Board of Directors as the government relations liaison,” said Don Francis, president of AICUP. “His knowledge and experience in higher education will serve as vital assets in our efforts to work on behalf of the independent colleges and universities of Pennsylvania.”
AICUP, the only statewide organization that serves exclusively the interests of private high education within the Commonwealth, exists to complement and support the work of campus leaders. AICUP was established in October 1995 through the affiliation of three existing educational organizations. Its mission is to educate policymakers, media representatives, and civic and corporate leaders about the benefits, value and quality education available at Pennsylvania’s independent colleges and universities. This educational effort is intended to secure government and philanthropic support for students and institutions in the independent sector. AICUP further works to create partnerships among its member institutions to enhance their programs and reduce their costs.
Dr. Brosnan is also working with the Mid-American Conference (MAC), which has served student athletes for the past 67 years. He served as the vice chair of the executive committee for two years and this past summer he was elected to serve as chair. In this role, Dr. Brosnan provides leadership to the organization. He works with other presidents and is helping to progress the strategic plan for the MAC.
