DelVal Celebrates 150th Birthday of Founder, Dr. Joseph Krauskopf
Jan 16, 2008
Delaware Valley College recognizes 2008 as the 150th anniversary of the the birth of the college's founder, Dr. Joseph Krauskopf.
A number of events have been planned to commemorate this milestone, beginning with an all-campus "birthday" party on Sunday, January 20, in the Krauskopf Library, at which the plans for the Sesquicentennial Door — a new entrance to the library that will feature an exterior relief sculpture of Dr. Krauskopf above the doorway — will be unveiled.
The Friends of the Joseph Krauskopf Memorial Library are spearheading this undertaking, and a major fundraising initiative is underway to complete the project. It is expected that construction for the entryway will begin this summer and that the new entrance will be dedicated next Homecoming.
A new biography of Dr. Krauskopf is also in the works. As the college community begins the new year, it is good to remember our origins. Dr. Krauskopf was a great leader and visionary who sowed the seeds that have become Delaware Valley College, and as a community we should celebrate his memory and rich legacy.
