DelVal alumna and trustee will present at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit
Nov 13, 2014
Delaware Valley College Trustee Laura Owen ’79 will co-present, “Accelerating Success: Mentoring Workshop for Women Entrepreneurs” at the fifth annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES), which will be hosted in Morocco Nov. 19 through Nov. 21. Owen is an alumna of the DelVal business administration program. GES will bring together more than 3,000 entrepreneurs with heads of state, high level global entrepreneurs, small medium enterprises, corporate leaders, and young entrepreneurs. The summit was launched in 2009 by President Barack Obama to “empower entrepreneurs with the skills and resources needed to thrive in the 21st century.” It will be held during Global Entrepreneurship Week, which is Nov. 17 through Nov. 23.
Owen is president and CEO of Ponscio, LLC, a company, which connects women entrepreneurs worldwide, driving economic and social change. She is also a former Kansas secretary of commerce.
“Women are at a tipping point, worldwide, to launch and grow their businesses, and attain great success,” said Owen. “Mentoring can ignite a business and serve as its compass, to optimize an entrepreneur’s success.”
The Mentoring Workshop will bring aspiring women entrepreneurs and women who are already established in their fields together. Participants will learn what makes a successful mentoring relationship, how to set goals, and how to set boundaries. They will then participate in a mentoring rotation, which will give participants a chance to meet mentors and share their challenges.
Delaware Valley College offers a variety of programs in business including a specialization in entrepreneurship for MBA students. In 2011, Owen presented at DelVal as part of the Watson-Executive-Residence Program, which brings high-level business executives to campus to share advice with current students.
