Delaware Valley College recognized as a top school for teacher education
Jan 15, 2014
Delaware Valley College has been named as a top college for teacher education and shaping the next generation by The Online College Database. The new ranking, "Top Colleges in Pennsylvania Shaping the Next Generation," honors the post-secondary institutions in the state that graduated the most education and teaching professionals in 2012.
The College Database is a not-for-profit organization that provides free information about education. While still a relatively young company, it has become a leader in providing educational information to students, parents, libraries, high schools and career centers across the country.
"Many colleges and universities have tremendous teacher education programs," said Doug Jones, founder of The College Database. "But which ones are producing the most young educators today? We wanted to identify the colleges making the largest impact on our students."
To be considered for the list, institutions must be fully accredited, four-year, not-for-profit colleges.
“DelVal is a great place for people who are passionate about teaching to gain the knowledge and experience they need to have a real and lasting impact on students and their futures,” said Dr. David Timony, acting chair of the College’s Department of Education.
The undergraduate secondary education curriculum is a blend of professional studies, teaching competencies, field experience and the subject area concentration. All undergraduates, starting with the Class of 2016, complete The Experiential Learning Program, which gives them the opportunity to take lessons from the classroom and apply them to real-world activities in their communities. The education department prepares biology, chemistry and general science teachers for grades 7-12, as well as agriculture teachers for grades K-12.
The College also offers a Master of Science in Educational Leadership and a Master of Science in Teaching and Learning. In fall 2014, DelVal will offer a doctoral program in education for the first time.
