Delaware Valley College announces fall 2014 Watson Executive-in-Residence speaker

Debbie Goetz, president of Debbie Goetz Media Connections, will be the featured speaker at Delaware Valley College’s Watson Executive-in-Residence (WEIR) program. Goetz will visit campus Monday, Nov. 10 and Tuesday, Nov. 11 to meet with classes. She will be presenting about her journey to starting her own business Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. in the Life Sciences Building auditorium on the College’s main campus. The program is open to DelVal students and alumni.

Goetz founded Debbie Goetz Media Connections, LLC located in Jamison, Pennsylvania. She has a master’s degree in business administration from Temple University and more than 30 years of business experience in New York City, Bucks and Montgomery counties, and Philadelphia. Her interpersonal skills and her ability to connect with both journalists and clients are an important part of her work. Goetz is a member of Public Relations Society of America, the Philadelphia Public Relations Association, the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce, Business Networking International, Network Now and the Greater Jamison Business Association, where she serves on the board of directors.

In addition to her presentation, she will be meeting with MBA and undergraduate students at DelVal to help them improve their online presence and optimize their professional social media profiles. The WEIR program will present a scholarship in Goetz’s name to a current business student. Goetz has also been invited to serve on the Delaware Valley College Business and Information Management Advisory Council. She, along with other business professionals, will work to improve and develop the business programs at the College.

The Watson Executive-in-Residence speaker series was founded by Thomas Watson '57, a DelVal alumnus who started out in pharmaceutical sales and realized he was passionate about advertising. Established in 2006, it has featured 17 executives as guest lecturers, with a scholarship awarded in each of their names. The program focuses on preparing students for the business world by bringing top executives to campus to share candid advice and lessons from their careers.

Watson is the CEO of Tom Watson Consulting, LLC, and co-founder of Omnicom Group and Omnicom University. He consults for Omnicom’s global management education and leadership development, the MBA Residency Program, and the company’s diversity initiative. Watson assumed his Omnicom role in 1998, after serving as president/chief operating officer, and later, vice chairman, of the DAS division since 1986. He was a co-founding member of the management team that created Omnicom Group in 1986. In 1995, he developed the Omnicom University Senior Management Program for management education and leadership development. He began his business career with Abbott Laboratories in sales, Merck & Co. in marketing and Erwin Wasey (IPG) and Robert A Becker in advertising. Watson serves as chairman of the DelVal President’s Advisory Council and is a member of the Business Management and Information Advisory Council. He is a graduate of Delaware Valley College (B.S.) and Hofstra University's Frank G. Zarb School of Business (MBA). He also received an honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from DelVal.
