Cross Country: Aggies Finish Strong in MAC Championships

Nov 03, 2008

Caitlin Dorgan and Brittany Schwartz each placed in the top 20 and earned all-league accolades to lead Delaware Valley College's showing at the 2008 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships (MAC) that were hosted by Elizabethtown College. The Aggie women placed fourth out of 14 teams while the men were seventh.

Delaware Valley finished in the same spot it did a season ago, but this time had three more schools to compete against. Its 110 points trailed only Elizabethtown College (43), Messiah College (49) and conference newcomer Misericordia University (95).

Dorgan and Schwartz were two main reasons why. Dorgan, a sophomore who was a second-team, all-MAC runner last year, took home a medal and first-team accolades in '08 as she placed fourth out of 117 runners with a 6K time of 23 minutes, 38.92 seconds. Schwartz made it three consecutive all-conference honors as the junior finished in 12th place with a time of 24 minutes, 26.20 seconds.

Melissa Plourde (26:11.25) and Meghan Hunsicker (26:23.02) placed 33rd and 37th respectively while Margaret Mote (26:35.42) crossed the finish line 39th.

On the men's side, the Aggies matched their finish from last year as well. Messiah College captured the team title with five runners in the top 10 and a total of 27 points.

Junior Chip Brumbaugh paced Delaware Valley as he finished 23rd out of 131 competitors with an 8K time of 29 minutes, 1.02 seconds. Freshman Rico Borrero followed five places later with a time of 29 minutes, 18.64 seconds, while Kevin McCoy (39th - 29:41.02), Steve Miller (60th - 31:07.30) and Dan Fenstermacher (80th - 32:54.40) rounded out the scoring for the Aggies.
