Baseball: Weingart Named to All-Region Third Team
May 28, 2009
Delaware Valley College centerfielder Kevin Weingart (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) capped a senior year to remember by being named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)-Rawlings Mid-Atlantic Region Third Team.
Weingart, who earned the first all-Freedom Conference honor (second team) just 11 days ago, led the Aggies in batting (.374), slugging (.633), hits (52), total bases (88), doubles (13), triples (7) and RBIs (40). He also tied second on the team in runs scored with 34 and committed just two errors in 92 chances for a .978 fielding percentage.
In Weingart’s last bat of his collegiate career, he ripped a two-run triple in the bottom of the ninth inning in a loss to Neumann College in the opening round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Championships. That three-bagger gave him 15 for his career to tie the Delaware Valley all-time record in the category. Weingart also finished second on the career list in doubles (42), third in both runs scored (123) and walks (88), fourth in RBIs (12) and sixth in hits (163).
Delaware Valley finished the 2009 campaign with a 21-13 record and qualified for the ECAC Championships for the second consecutive year.
