African-American Soldiers in the Civil War

Joseph W. Becton will present “African-American Soldiers in the Civil War” in room 114 of Delaware Valley College’s Mandell Science Building on Feb. 18 at 4:30 p.m. The forum is free and open to the public.
Becton, a former Marine, is the owner/operator of Becton Tours and Historical Services. He has been involved in African-American Civil War reenactment and programming for over three decades. In 1990, he co-founded the 3rd Regiment United States Colored Troops, Civil War re-enactors.
Over the past decade, he has been featured in several documentaries detailing the lives of African-American Civil War soldiers. He has appeared at and organized numerous reenactments and heritage festivals, and worked as member of the Pennsylvania Humanities Council's Commonwealth Speakers Series, where he developed an ongoing series entitled “African-American Soldiers in the Civil War.”
The Liberal Arts Department, and Students for Diversity, a campus club, are bringing Becton to campus. The event is one of the College’s Multicultural Forums, which are held twice per year on campus.
