11/13/08: Concert Band Performs “Music for Prague 1968”

The Delaware Valley College Concert Band will present a Lecture and Recital commemorating the 40th anniversary of the 1968 Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, November 13 in the College's Student Center Auditorium.

The program will feature Czech-composer Karel Husa's monumental, Music for Prague 1968, composed in response to the tumultuous events of that year.

Prior to the musical performance, photographer and Prague native Dusan Neumann will share recollections and photographs from 1968 and historian Alison Graham will look at the political situation in Eastern Europe leading up to the invasion.

Dr. Jack Schmidt will then explore Husa's unique musical language before conducting the work in performance. This program is part of an ongoing series commemorating the historic events of 1968 and is sponsored by Delaware Valley College's Department of Liberal Arts.
