04/23/08: Arboretum Presentation - Stephanie Cohen

Apr 21, 2008

The Henry Schmieder Arboretum will present the Special Event of the Spring 2008 season on Wednesday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Room 114 of Mandell Hall. There will be a reception in the Mandell lobby starting at 6:45 p.m. Stephanie Cohen, author of "The Perennial Gardener's Design Primer," will share imaginative ideas and inspirations for autumn, as well as sign books following the presentation.

Activities include the multi-colored foliage of trees, grasses, plants with flashy seedheads and berries, long-blooming perennials, late-blooming sedums and other show stoppers to make Fall into a season that you cannot resist.

Stephanie Cohen, the “Perennial Diva,” taught at Temple University for over 20 years. She also served as Director of the Landscape Arboretum at Temple University, Ambler. She has lectured from coast to coast and has been the recipient of numerous awards, including those from Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, the American Nursery and Landscape Association and the Perennial Plant Association. In 2005, "The Perennial Gardener’s Design Primer" was chosen by the Garden Writers of America as the winner in the best overall book category.

Currently, Stephanie has a new book entitled Fallscaping, which was launched in the summer of 2007. The book was co-authored with Nancy Ondra, a well-known Pennsylvania author and a Delaware Valley College graduate (class of 1989) and will be available for purchase.

Professor Bob Pierson and his Food Science students will prepare the treats for the reception.

The event is free to all Delaware Valley College students and Arboretum members; $5 fee for nonmembers.
