02/17/08: Visiting Artist, Clipper Erickson

Feb 13, 2008

Delaware Valley College is proud to present renowned pianist Clipper Erickson as part of the school's Visiting Artist series. Erickson will perform "Orchestra in a Box" on Thursday, February 17 at 3:00 p.m. in the Student Center Auditorium.

A favorite of Delaware Valley College audiences, Mr. Erickson will resurrect the neglected tradition of performing well-known orchestral works in piano transcriptions. Although iPods, CD players, satellite radio and other electronic equipment have made orchestral music accessible to all, it wasn't long ago that you needed to attend a live concert in order to hear the latest orchestral classic. Mr. Erickson will perform transcriptions of such classics as the Second Suite from Ravel's Daphnis and Chloe, the Four Dance Episodes from Aaron Copland's Rodeo and Saint-Saens' Danse Macabre. Acclaimed by the LA Times for his "extraordinary dash and power," Clipper Erickson has received many awards during his career including a prize at the Busoni Competition.

Tickets for the performance are $10 for DelVal Faculty, Staff and community members; the concert will be free for DelVal Students. For more information, please Dr. Jack Schmidt at 215-489-2233.
