Switching from Fall Semester to Spring Semester
Posted on December 22, 2015 by Delaware Valley University.
Every school year, the fall semester is typically very different from the spring semester. For example, at Delaware Valley University, the fall semester begins with warm temperatures, and ends before the holidays. The spring semester begins after the holidays, when the temperatures are frigid, then ends as spring begins to bloom again.
As a student, there are some things you should keep in mind as you’re switching from fall to spring semester to help the transition go a little more smoothly.
Before you make the switch to the next semester, it’s crucial that you familiarize yourself with your schedule and make sure that all the classes you need to take are on it. At some schools, certain courses are only offered in the spring. This means that if there is something you want to take or is required for your major and you aren’t scheduled for it this spring semester, you’ll have to wait until next spring semester to do so.
Reviewing your schedule before the start of the semester is also a good way to motivate you after a long winter break and introduce yourself to the months ahead.
If there were any clubs, organizations or activities that you witnessed fall semester that interested you, look into joining it for the spring semester. You’ll want to contact the student or staff member that runs the club at the end of the fall semester so you can start the spring semester as a member. You could also use your winter to break to gather information about this organization and learn what you can do to prepare.
There are many DelVal sports that begin in the spring. If you’ve been considering joining an athletic team, reach out to the captain or coach sometime in the fall semester. Sports teams typically train and practice together over winter break before the start of the season in spring semester, so you’ll want to be sure you’re prepared and on the same page as other members of the team.
Colleges and universities typically host a great deal of events in the spring to celebrate the warm weather. During your switch from fall to spring semester, make sure you’re aware of all of these exciting events coming up so that you never miss out.
For example, DelVal holds A-Day, short for Activities Day, in the spring semester. This multi-day event encompasses exhibits, displays and entertainment for a day of fun and socialization. The students put this event together with minimal assistance from faculty and staff and it benefits the A-Day Scholarship Fund. Bringing together the campus and the community, the demonstrations represent a variety of majors at DelVal. A-Day is a part of the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs and has a wide range of foods sure to please every visitor. A-Day 2016 will be take place April 22 to April 24. Be sure to mark your calendar!
