Speed networking: You should try It!

I attended the Branching Out Networking for students and alumni at Delaware Valley University. This was by far the best networking event I have ever attended. It was not your normal career fair event where there are booths and you approach each one, hope to make a good impression and hope they have time to talk to you. This was like a speed dating-type event, where each individual had time to talk to each businessperson.

When I first got there, it was informal and I was a little nervous and unsure of who to talk to. Then once the speed networking began, it was game on!

I spoke to about 30 people for three minutes each and was able to make connections and get advice from each person. Even though there were people from all different companies and different majors, each businessperson I talked to was able to give me some great advice. Even the business people outside of my major were able to give some life advice, although I was not looking to be involved with their career fields.

I am glad that I had the chance to go to this event and make some amazing connections, even outside my field if I decide to change career paths. I hope that if there is another event like this, and that other students and alumni take the time to go. These events allow participants to make connections and learn about a variety of career fields.

It was awesome to see that alumni are coming back to the DelVal community to share about their careers. They are willing to help students score internships or, help steer you in the right direction for an internship. Knowing that people who graduate are willing to come back and help future graduates form their future paths really makes me happy to be a part of this community.
