Your first year of college is an exciting time, especially when attending Delaware Valley University. There are many resources DelVal offers to first-year students to help ease the transition to college.
The staff at DelVal is dedicated to providing an enjoyable experience for students beginning their first year. The Office of First-Year Experience supports new students and their parents by preparing them for personal and professional success and helping them to be comfortable in their new environment. Offering several programs and opportunities, this resource will guide you along the way while you adjust to college.
Summer Bridge Program
Part of the First-Year Experience, the Summer Bridge program at DelVal is a four-week academic residential program that helps make students more comfortable when transitioning from high school to college. This beneficial program prepares students for college-level English and mathematics as well as the college culture and environment.
Students from various backgrounds will be enrolled in two to three intensive courses while living together in a residence hall for four weeks to get a feel for college. This program gives students the opportunity to become familiar with the campus, understand faculty expectations, and get to know peers and faculty.

Clubs and Activities
DelVal has over 70 organizations on campus where students come together to bond over their similar interests. Getting involved in a club during your first year at DelVal can be a great way to meet other students and make lifelong friends while also getting involved on campus and participating in activities that you enjoy.
With organizations such as the Wildlife Society, Turf Club, Jazz Band and Horticulture Society, there’s something for everyone. And if you have an idea for a club that we don’t offer, we encourage you to make your own. DelVal supports leadership and loves when students take initiative. Athletics and Intramurals
If you participated in sports throughout high school and are interested in continuing your athletic career, DelVal has 17 intercollegiate sports and many intramural programs. DelVal is involved in the NCAA Division III Middle States Athletic Conference, which has a strong, competitive schedule. Managing time for athletics as well as academics is challenging, but it’s worth it for our student-athletes who have a passion for their sports.
If you’re not interested in the competitiveness that goes along with collegiate sports, intramurals may be a better fit with you. These recreational activities allow you to have fun playing the game while also staying in shape.
