Getting Ahead with DelVal’s Spring 2016 Job and Internship Fair
Posted on March 7, 2016 by Delaware Valley University.
Delaware Valley University will host its Spring Job and Internship Fair on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, and as a student, it's an event you don't want to miss! This fair allows you to meet people from companies that are looking for employees just like you. There are many opportunities available to you at the fair, so don't just stroll in after one of your classes.
Being prepared will look good to employers searching for job candidates, and you could walk away with a new job or internship.
Follow the tips below to put yourself ahead when you go to DelVal's Spring Job and Internship Fair.
Look the Part
Don't show up in sweatpants, lounge wear or anything casual. You're trying to get a job or an internship, so it's best to dress in an outfit that's business casual or business professional. Think of it like a job interview. Wear dress pants, a skirt with a hemline to your knees, a collared shirt or a blouse and a jacket and tie.
Employers and recruiters want to hire professionals, so looking the part will go along way in making a good first impression and encouraging them to consider you for the position.
Refine Your Résumé
Don't show up to the fair empty handed. Bring multiple copies of your résumé and cover letter so you can hand them out to the companies that you're interested in working for.
If you don't have a résumé or you'd like to revise yours, visit DelVal's Center for Student Professional Development. The professionals working at the center will help you to make sure that your résumé is presentable. They can also go over some interview tips to make sure that you're prepared for the fair.
Be Social and Ready to Talk
This job and internship fair gives you the opportunity to meet many different people who are looking to fill certain positions in their companies. They'll also see lots of new faces, so it's important that you stand out among the crowd.
Talk to them and be friendly and cordial. Sell yourself and let them know everything you have to offer without being abrasive or arrogant. Remember that they're people who want to have interesting conversations, so interest them. Be enthusiastic and fun but also professional.
If you consider these tips and go into the job and internship fair prepared, wearing a professional outfit and carrying a refined résumé and an open mind to talk to employers, you could land the job or internship you want.
Don't miss DelVal's Spring 2016 Job and Internship Fair on Wednesday, March 30 from 11 am to 2:30 pm at the Work Gymnasium. Bring your student ID for quick check-in.
