Having a hobby or two when you go away to college is a great way to relax, take your mind off of school work, and keep you busy if you have some free time. Some hobbies can be enjoyed in a group setting and can even help you meet new people on campus.

Having a hobby or two when you go away to college is a great way to relax, take your mind off of school work, and keep you busy if you have some free time. Some hobbies can be enjoyed in a group setting and can even help you meet new people on campus.

Working Out
Starting a workout regimen can benefit you in multiple ways. Exercising is a great way to clear your mind after a long day of classes and studying, and staying healthy and fit will help you feel better overall. Your college probably will have a large recreation center and/or large gym filled with fitness equipment. Working out also gives you an opportunity to meet other students who like to exercise.

Start working out when you get accepted to college, if you don’t already work out regularly, so you have a set routine when you arrive on campus.

Start a Blog
Blogs are popular right now and some of them even get millions of views each day. If there’s a topic you’re passionate about or you simply enjoy writing, you should consider starting your own blog. Having a blog is beneficial when you’re in college because it can provide a fun activity but can also be used as writing samples for school program applications or job applications. Future employers may also be interested in your blog if it’s well written and you’ve kept up with it.

Reading
You may not have enjoyed reading when you were in high school, but it’s actually a great way to clear your mind and immerse yourself into a different world. A book can take you away from a stressful time while increasing your vocabulary and helping your spelling.

Reading is a wonderful hobby because you can do it anywhere. Put a book in your backpack and read in the student lounge between classes, at the library or outside in the sun. No matter where you are, you can enjoy a good book.

Art
Another portable hobby is art, including drawing, painting or photography. A lot of people enjoy how relaxing these activities can be, and it’s easy to watch videos online to learn how to draw or paint something that you like. You may even be able to join a club that will allow you to improve on your skills as an artist and meet other people with the same hobby.

When deciding on a hobby to pursue, be sure to have an open mind. College is a time to discover new things so you may end up loving an activity that you never gave a chance before. Take these suggestions into consideration when deciding on a hobby.
