No. 4 Delaware Valley College 35, No. 27 Wilkes University 6

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - The Delaware Valley College wrestling team picked up its second win over a nationally-ranked opponent this week as the fourth-ranked Aggies dominated No. 27 Wilkes University, 35-6, in front of a packed crowd Friday evening at James Work Gymnasium.

Delaware Valley, which notched a 39-9 triumph over 23rd-ranked Messiah College on Wednesday, improved to 9-4 in dual meets. The Colonels fell to 14-5-1.

The match began at 149 pounds and it was all Delaware Valley in the beginning as it dominated the first five weight classes, en route to a 20-0 lead. At 149, Jesse Harrington, ranked sixth in Division III, used five takedowns and two near-falls to his advantage as he registered a 17-4 major decision over Derek Brownmiller (12-8). The win was the 20th of the season for Harrington in 25 matches.

Two-time national qualifier Ryan Herwig (15-8) followed at 157 and the senior picked up a reversal at the end of the first period to take the lead for good at 4-3. He built the advantage to 9-4 in the second period and only a late escape by Adam Penberthy (21-12) halted a major decision as Herwig had to settle for a 12-5 triumph and a 7-0 team lead.

Greg Miele improved to 12-9 for the Aggies as he led 4-1 after the first period and 6-3 after two. Miele then used a reversal, a takedown and riding time to complete an 11-4 decision over James Histed (13-11).

At 174, Brian Boudro (6-2) jumped out to a 7-1 lead after the first five minutes. He finished with five takedowns, cruised to a 13-4 major decision over Josh Lamb (0-6) and gave Delaware Valley a 14-0 advantage.

Mike Wilcox hit the mat next for Delaware Valley at 184 pounds and the second-ranked wrestler in the country built an 8-1 lead before pinning Colin Nagy (6-7) with 11 seconds left in the first period (2:49). The victory improved Wilcox to 17-2 on the season.

Wilkes picked up its first points at 197 pounds as Zach Pizarro (20-8) earned a 7-3 decision over ninth-ranked Joe West (18-7). The match was squared at 1-1 when Pizarro recorded a takedown with 1:30 remaining. West escaped, but Pizarro registered a takedown and a two-point near-fall with under 30 seconds to go to clinch the victory.

However, the momentum quickly swung back to the Aggies as Kyle Bilquist needed just 38 seconds to pin Jake Weinrich (4-12). For Bilquist, ranked second in Division III at heavyweight, it was his 19th win in 20 tries this season and it clinched the match for Delaware Valley at 26-3.

The 125-pound bout featured a pair of wrestlers who entered the night with a combined 49 wins. Delaware Valley's Chris Sheetz, ranked 10th nationally, took a commanding 10-2 lead in the second period and finished with a 10-6 decision over Shaun Farnham (26-13) to up his record to 24-5.

The Colonels got their final points of the evening at 133 pounds as Ryan Wilson (15-10) picked up a takedown in the early stages of the third period for a 2-1 lead and he went on to a 4-2 triumph over Brandon Clemmer (16-7).

The Aggies' Dan Hall, 18-4 and ranked second nationally, was awarded a forfeit victory at 141 pounds to end the match at 35-6.
