DIVISION III NATIONAL DUALS - DAY TWO
Semifinals: No. 1 Wartburg College 35, No. 4 Delaware Valley College 3
Consolation Finals: No. 2 Augsburg College 20, No. 4 Delaware Valley College 16

CEDAR FALLS (IA) - Delaware Valley College finished exactly where the national rankings and the seedings for the 2008 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Cliff Keen Division III National Duals indicated as the Aggies dropped a pair of matches on Sunday and placed fourth at the premier head-to-head tournament in the country.

Delaware Valley reached the semifinals with big victories over St. Olaf College (MN), 32-12, and No. 5 Luther College (IA), 29-9, on Saturday. However, the Aggies then ran into the top two teams in the country as they suffered a 35-3 defeat to No. 1 Wartburg College (IA) and followed with a 20-16 loss to No. 2 Augsburg College in the consolation finals.

Delaware Valley should hold the number four spot when the next national rankings are announced. The team is 6-4 in dual meets with all of its losses coming to the top three teams in Wartburg (two losses), Augsburg and No. 3 University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse.

The match against Wartburg started strong for Delaware Valley as freshman 125-pounder Chris Sheetz notched a 7-5 decision over seventh-ranked Robert Struthers for a 3-0 Aggie lead. They were the first points scored against Wartburg in the tournament followed its 52-0 and 47-0 wins over University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Olivet College on Saturday.

However, the lead was short lived as Wartburg won by major decision at 133 and then by decision at 141 for a 7-3 advantage. The big match then took place at 149 pounds as Delaware Valley's Jesse Harrington, ranked seventh in the country, battled top-ranked Jacob Naig. The two went into overtime where Naig posted a 2-1 victory for a 10-3 lead. The Knights went on to win the final six weight classes for the 35-3 final. Wartburg went on to win the team championship with a 25-8 victory over Wisconsin-LaCrosse in the finals.

Delaware Valley fell behind Augsburg 8-0 after the first two matches, but Dan Hall put them on the scoreboard as the second-ranked wrestler at 141 notched a 7-3 decision over Jason Adams. A pin for the Auggies at 149 gave them a 14-3 lead before two-time national qualifier Ryan Herwig earned an 11-0 major decision over Beau Hansen at 157 pounds for the Auggies. Augsburg then earned decisions in the two weight classes, including an overtime triumph at 165, for a 20-7 lead.

Delaware Valley won the last three weight classes as nationally-ranked wrestlers Mike Wilcox (second at 184), Joe West (ninth at 197) and Kyle Bilquist (second at heavyweight) notched decisions. Wilcox bounced back from his semifinal loss to the top-ranked wrestler in his weight class and recorded an 8-5 victory over No. 3 Robbie Gotreau. West followed with a 4-0 blanking of Wally O'Connor and Bilquist ended the Aggies' showing at the duals with a 3-2 triumph over Andy Witzel.
