DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Delaware Valley College junior heavyweight Kyle
Bilquist pinned another opponent at home, this time a Division I
wrestler that is ranked in the EIWA, as the Aggies notched a 28-10
victory over East Stroudsburg University.
The win was the fifth straight for Delaware Valley as the fourth-ranked
Aggies improved to 11-4 on the season. The Warriors fell to 3-9.
Bilquist, ranked second nationally in Division III, needed just
30 and 38 seconds to drop his prior foes at home matches. On Friday
night, he was matched up with sophomore Chris Birchler who was 19-6
and ranked sixth in the latest EIWA poll. Bilquist didn't need much
more time as it took only 88 seconds before he pinned Birchler to
improve to 20-1 (nine pins) on the year. The win also sealed the
team match for the Aggies at 24-10 with one weight class remaining.
Chris Sheetz, ranked ninth nationally, ended the match with bonus
points for Delaware Valley as he notched a 12-2 major decision over
Matthew Benedetti (1-17) at 125 pounds. The victory was a team-best
26th (26-5) for Sheetz.
Delaware Valley won seven of the 10 weight classes on the evening,
including the opening bout at 133 pounds as Brandon Clemmer (19-7)
used an escape and a full period of riding time to earn a 2-0 decision
over Matt Swallow (17-9).
East Stroudsburg evened things up at 141 as a match-up of nationally-ranked
wrestlers went into overtime. The Warriors' Sean Carr (20-6), ranked
sixth in the EIWA, registered a takedown with 16 seconds left in
the extra session to pull out a 3-1 victory over the second-ranked
wrestler in Division III in Dan Hall (18-6).
The Aggies took a 12-3 lead with decisions in the next three weight
classes. Jesse Harrington, ranked sixth at 149, improved to 22-5
on the year with an 8-2 triumph over Jesse Dunn (1-8). Two-time
Division III national qualifier Ryan Herwig (16-9) used riding time
as the difference in a 10-9 victory over Kyle Hesselpoth (8-14)
at 157. Greg Miele continued the run and upped his record to 14-9
with a 6-2 decision over Joe Schick (4-14) at 165 pounds.
East Stroudsburg won two of the next three matches as Shane Mallory
(17-10) notched a 12-4 decision over Mike DiGregorio (11-11) at
174 and Dave Williams (5-5) posted an 8-2 victory over Joe West
(18-9) at 197. Delaware Valley's remaining points were a forfeit
victory to second-ranked Mike Wilcox (19-2) in-between at 184 pounds.
