Aggies Compete At Central Jersey Open
EWING (NJ) - The Delaware Valley College wrestling team opened
its 2007-08 season by having its freshmen and sophomores compete
at the Central Jersey Open. Team scoring was not held at the event.
The Central Jersey Open has generally had two separate brackets
with one containing freshmen and sophomores and the other featuring
juniors and seniors. This year's event did not have enough competitors
for the latter so it was strictly freshmen and sophomores.
Delaware Valley, ranked sixth in Division III, saw three of its
underclassmen capture first-place honors in Jesse Harrington (149),
John Barrett (174) and Joe West (197). Harrington won three matches
including a 12-5 decision over Leo Dorman of Stevens Tech in the
finals. Barrett needed just two wins to take the title and posted
a pair of 7-0 triumphs, including one over Eric Roehrig (Nassau
Community College) in the championship finals. West earned his crown
with three victories, including an 11-3 major decision over Travis
Gerdon of Middlesex County.
Tramaine Franklin and Will Spaziani reached the championship finals
at 133 and 157 pounds respectively and finished as the runners-up.
Chris Sheetz (125), Eric McCann (133) and Darren Hackenburg (157)
placed third in their respective weight classes.
