AGGIE WRESTLER
MIKE WILCOX TO BE FEATURED NATIONWIDE ON CBS SPORTS
NCAA Winter Championships Highlight Show To Air On May 3
DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Delaware Valley College junior wrestler Mike
Wilcox (Buena, NJ/Buena) will be featured across the country as
part of CBS Sports' NCAA Winter Championships Highlight Show on
Saturday, May 3 starting at 1:00 p.m. Eastern time (CBS is located
on Channel 3 in the local Philadelphia area).
The NCAA seasonal shows typically feature highlights and unique
NCAA student-athlete stories from the Division II and III championships.
Wilcox and Aggie head coach Brandon Totten were interviewed at the
championships in Iowa back in March and the segment is scheduled
to be the last of the show and air around 1:50 p.m.
Wilcox's story involves the tragic car accident that took the life
of his older brother Ricky one day before Ricky's high school graduation.
Since then, Mike has been on a mission to win a wrestling championship
in his brother's memory (his brother was also a wrestler). He reached
the state championships as a senior in high school and the junior
college nationals while at Gloucester Community College, but did
not attain his ultimate goal.
Wilcox transferred to Delaware Valley prior to the 2007-08 season
and qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships. He went all
the way to the finals at 184 pounds before falling to an undefeated
wrestler from national champion Wartburg College of Iowa. He will
make one last run at a championship for his brother next season.
Each year back in Wilcox's hometown, a charity race called "Run
4 Ricky" takes place where money is raised for scholarships
in Ricky's name that go to graduating seniors of Buena High School
to further their education. More information on the race and scholarship
is available at www.run4ricky.org.
