Delaware Valley Captures York College
Spartan Invitational
YORK (PA) - Delaware Valley College, ranked sixth in Division III,
crowned four individual champions and dominated the competition
at the 2006 Spartan Invitational held at York College.
The Aggies registered 142 points to easily outdistance runner-up
York, which had 92 points. Gloucester Community College was third
in the 11-team field with 91.5 points while The College of New Jersey
(64.5) and Division I Delaware State University (51.5) rounded out
the top five.
Ricky LaForge (141), Jaryd Steinbacher (149), Paul Donnell (174)
and Kyle Bilquist (Hwt) each captured the individual titles in their
weight classes.
LaForge, who is ranked sixth nationally in his weight class, earned
a 7-3 decision over Alex Binder of York in the finals. Steinbacher,
who was a NCAA Division III qualifier last season, won his bracket
with a 10-5 decision over Shaun Yackey of Washington & Jefferson.
Donnell won his crown when Brian Boudro of Glocuester defaulted
four minutes into their championship match. Bilquist earned his
title with a 7-3 victory over Luke Panizzi of York.
Joe West and Kevin Orr finished second at 184 and 197 pounds respectively.
Josh Proctor (125), 2006 national qualifier Ryan Herwig (157) and
Martin Porter (184) won their consolation finals matches to place
third. Matt Lindsay (141), Bill Woodward (149), Ryan Pope (165)
and Greg Miele (174) each placed fourth.
