No. 4 Delaware Valley College 42, McDaniel College 3


DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Four Delaware Valley College wrestlers notched pins, three coming in the first period, as the fourth-ranked Aggies downed visiting McDaniel College, 42-3, in a non-conference match.

The win was the ninth in the last 10 dual meets for Delaware Valley as it improved to 14-2 on the season. The Aggies also avenged last year's season-opening loss to the Green Terror (2-6).

Justin Shorts (133), Jaryd Steinbacher (149), Kevin Orr (197) and nationally-ranked Kyle Bilquist (Hwt) dropped their opponents in short time. Shorts won his ninth match of the season as he pinned Steve Colasuonno in exactly two minutes. Steinbacher, a 2006 national qualifier, built a 9-0 lead before stopping Eric Preefer with 54 seconds left in the second period (4:06). The sophomore improved to 24-9, including nine pins, with the victory.

Orr and Bilquist ended the match with back-to-back pins. Orr upped his record to 21-6 (10 pins) as he needed just 53 seconds to pin Ferris Bond. Bilquist continued his standout season as the third-ranked wrestler at heavyweight dropped Ryan Deiter with just nine seconds left in the opening period (2:51). The triumph improved Bilquist to 32-4 with 15 pins.

Ryan Pope (165) and Vinny LaSelva (174) notched decisions for Delaware Valley. Pope, improved to 21-15 with a 4-1 victory over Courtney Nightengale while LaSelva upped his mark to 7-5 with a 2-1 triumph over Cory Beall.

The Aggies' Ricky LaForge (141) and Ryan Herwig (157) received forfeit victories while the 125-pound weight class was a no contest as neither squad had a wrestler available for tonight's match.

McDaniel picked up its lone points at 184 pounds as Andrew Winfield earned a 9-2 decision over Paul Donnell for his 10th win of the year (10-3).
