Delaware Valley College 46, King's College 3

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Delaware Valley College, ranked sixth in Division III, racked up five pins, including four consecutive falls early in the match, en route to a 46-3 victory over King's College in the dual-meet opener for both teams.

Following a forfeit win by the Aggies' Justin Shorts (4-4) at 133 pounds, Ricky LaForge needed just 95 seconds to pin Anthony Miele (5-4) at 141 pounds for a 12-0 Aggie lead. LaForge, ranked sixth in his weight class, improved to 3-1 on the young season.

Billy Woodward followed at 149 and the freshman built an 11-0 lead before dropping Val Poleto (2-5) with 1:06 remaining in the second period (3:54). Woodward upped his record to 6-3 and he gave Delaware Valley an 18-0 lead.

Returning national qualifier Ryan Herwig (5-2) held a 2-0 lead halfway through the match, but reversed Taylor Green (2-5) with 56 seconds to go in the second period. Fifteen seconds later, Herwig had the pin for a 24-0 team advantage.

Delaware Valley's Ryan Pope and King's Drew Dehaut met at 165 pounds and Dehaut took an early 2-0 lead. Later in the first, Dehaut took Pope down and nearly had the fall, but Pope reversed it and earned the pin himself at the 1:56 mark. Pope improved to 8-3 while Dehaut fell to 2-3.

The Aggies nearly had a fifth straight pin as Paul Donnell had Zach Dietrick down in the final moments of their 174-pound match. Dietrick (4-4) was able to pull out of the hold and Donnell registered a 10-0 major decision to improve to 5-3 on the year and give the Aggies a 34-0 lead.

At 184, Martin Porter and Zach Wilkinson were tied at 3-3 and appeared headed for overtime. However, Porter (10-3) notched a takedown with just nine seconds to go to for a 5-3 final, a 37-0 team score and the first loss of the season for Wilkinson (5-1).

The Monarchs picked up their lone win of the match at 197 pounds as Jason Reilly, ranked seventh in Division III, improved to 6-1 with a 4-2 triumph over Kevin Orr (5-4). Orr jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Reilly used two escapes and a takedown for the lead. He then held on at the end as Orr closed in on a possible takedown but time expired.

However, Delaware Valley ended the match with a decision and a pin for the 46-3 final. At heavyweight, Kyle Bilquist moved his mark to 10-2 as he picked up three, first-period takedowns, en route to a 10-4 decision over Justin Bender (0-1).
