CEDAR FALLS (IA) - The Delaware Valley College wrestling team posted a 1-2 record at the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA)/Cliff Keen Division III National Duals over the weekend.

The Aggies, ranked 28th in Division III, opened with a 21-15 loss to No. 19 Cornell College, and followed with an 18-16 loss to Augustana College in the consolation bracket. Delaware Valley returned to action in an extra match against Wilmington and posted a 37-10 victory to improved to 3-5 on the year.

Cornell won six of 10 decisions in the opening match for the six-point decision. Down 9-0, Jaryd Steinbacher put the Aggies on the scoreboard with an 8-4 decision over Caleb Wilson at 149 pounds. However, Cornell took three of the next four weight classes for a 21-6 lead. The lone Delaware Valley win in that run was a 6-3 decision by John Powell at 165 pounds.

Jamall Johnson, showed why he is the second-ranked wrestler in Division III at 197 pounds as the 2005 national runner-up needed just 49 seconds to pin John Ugaste. Freshman Kevin Orr followed with a 5-2 decision over Chris Gustafson at heavyweight.

Delaware Valley opened with a 4-0 advantage against Augustana as Josh Proctor recorded a 13-2 major decision over Leo Byrd at 125 pounds. However, Augustana won five straight matches for an 18-4 lead.

Paul Donnell stopped the run with an 8-5 decision over Dan Cremar at 174 pounds and Mike Berlanda followed with a 6-1 victory over Brian Kerr at 184 for an 18-10 score. Johnson and Orr remained perfect on the day, but both only won by decision and Delaware Valley fell by two points.

The match-up with Wilmington was decided after both teams were eliminated from the National Duals brackets. Delaware Valley posted wins in eight of 10 weight classes including pins by Proctor (125), Dan Hall (141), Berlanda (184) and Caleb Churchwell (Hwt).
