Millersville University 18, Delaware Valley 14

MILLERSVILLE (PA) - Millersville University won six bouts, all by decision, as the Division II Marauders posted an 18-14 triumph over visiting Delaware Valley College.

Millersville improved to 1-2 in dual meets while the Aggies, ranked 25th in Division III, ended the first semester with a 2-2 record. They will return to action on Friday, January 6 when they host Division III powerhouse Wartburg College of Iowa.

The only non-decision of the contest was at 165 pounds where Delaware Valley's John Powell scored a 17-1 technical fall over Malcolm Hayes. That five-point victory pulled the Aggies to within four, 12-8, with four matches to go.

But Millersville got the cushion it needed for the victory when Mark Knock posted a 4-0 triumph over Ryan Pope at 174 pounds and Tim Rice followed with an 8-4 decision over Paul Donnell at 184.

Delaware Valley's Mike Berlanda followed with a 10-5 decision over Steve Funk at 197 pounds to make it 18-11 and freshman Kevin Orr continued his strong wrestling with a 3-0 shutout of Mike Davidowich at heavyweight. The win was the 12th in 15 matches for Orr.

The match began at 125 pounds where Michael Acedo-Malaney notched a 6-2 decision over Zach Holt for a 3-0 Millersville lead. Delaware Valley's Justin Shorts tied it up with an 8-1 triumph over Jeff Schell at 133. However, the Marauders won the next three weight classes for a 12-3 advantage.
