Delaware Valley 30, Messiah College 9

GRANTHAM (PA) - Delaware Valley College picked up victories in seven of 10 weight classes, including six with bonus points, as the 28th-ranked Aggies downed Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) rival Messiah College, 30-9.

Delaware Valley (8-6) jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead as Josh Proctor pinned Mark Eilersten with 37 seconds remaining in the first period (2:23) of their 125-pound bout. The two teams then traded decisions with the Aggies' Dan Hall notching a 6-1 victory over Matt Gorkos at 141 pounds for a 9-3 advantage

Delaware Valley built the lead up to 18-3 with a major decision and a technical fall in the next two weight classes. Jaryd Steinbacher earned a 12-1 victory at 149 pounds and Ryan Herwig followed with the technical fall at 157 as he stopped Trey Speers at 5:30.

Messiah (4-6) came back with consecutive victories at 165 and 174 to make it an 18-9 match, but the Aggies took the final three bouts - all by major decision. Mike Berlanda started the run with a 12-3 triumph over Mike Orfanos at 184 pounds.

Jamall Johnson, ranked second in Division III at 197 pounds, followed with his 16th win in 20 matches, an 18-6 victory over Mike Lengel. Freshman heavyweight Kevin Orr ended the evening with a 12-3 triumph over Ethan Bucarey for his team-best 17th win of the season (17-6).
