No. 25 McDaniel College 22, No. 10 Delaware Valley 17

BEL AIR (MD) - The Delaware Valley College wrestling team, ranked 10th in Division III, opened its 2005-06 season with a 22-17 loss against No. 25 McDaniel College at John Carroll High School.

For the Aggies, who are the four-time defending Middle Atlantic Conference champions, it was just the fifth time in 31 career meetings that they lost to the Green Terror out of the Centennial Conference.

Delaware Valley never led in the match and won just four of the ten weight classes. Nationally-ranked wrestlers Dan Hall (eighth at 141) and Jamall Johnson (second at 197) did not compete in the match.

Down 7-0 after the first two weight classes, the Aggies got on the board at 141 pounds as Brandon Earlston notched a 13-3 major decision over Eddie Labatch. Following a McDaniel decision at 149, junior college transfer Ryan Herwig gave Delaware Valley four more points and just a 10-8 deficit with a 13-4 major decision over Zach Hetrick at 157 pounds.

However, McDaniel took the next three weights with a pin and two decisions for a 22-8 lead. The Aggies got their remaining points at 197 with Mike Berlanda's 6-0 shutout of Corey Beall and Kevin Orr's pin of Keith English just 20 seconds into the second period of their heavyweight match.
