Wrestling - 2005-06 Season
Head
coach Brandon Totten and the Aggies finished the 2005-06 season
with a 10-7 overall record and a perfect 6-0 mark in the Middle
Atlantic Conference (MAC). The team then captured their fifth straight
MAC title and tied for seventh place at the NCAA Division III Championships.
Delaware Valley sent five wrestlers to the NCAA Championships,-
all of whom won individual crowns at the MACs to earn an automatic
bid to nationals.
One of the wrestlers was Jamall Johnson and the senior went on
to capture the 197-pound national championship as he recorded three
pins in for matches, including an 88-second pin in the final. Johnson's
title was eighth in Aggie wrestling history and he also earned the
tournament's Aggregate Award for most pins in the least amount of
time.
Junior Dan Hall (141 pounds) won his third straight MAC title and
reached the third round of consolations at the NCAA Championships
- just one victory away from All-American honors. Junior transfer
Ryan Herwig (157) also reached the third round of consolations at
the national tournament.
Senior Mike Berlanda (184) and freshman Jaryd Steinbacher (149)
each captured their first conference crowns. Both were knocked out
of the NCAA Championships following the second round of consolations.
Head coach Brandon Totten, who won a pair of NCAA Championships
during his wrestling days at Delaware Valley, earned MAC Coach of
the Year honors for the fourth consecutive year.
