Wrestling Aggies Take Second At York
Invitational YORK (PA) -- Rob Jiminez (157) and returning
All-American Andrew Helms (197) captured individual titles to lead Delaware Valley
College to a second-place finish at the 2004 York College Spartan Invitational.
The
Aggies, ranked fourth in Division III, notched 58 points despite not having returning
All-Americans Barry Wise (133) and Jason Shivak (184) in their lineup. The two
will be part of the Aggie squad that will compete at the Penn State University
Open on Sunday. York College, ranked 14th in the country, took top honors
with 100.5 points. Montclair State (44 points), Washington & Jefferson (43.5
points) and Division I Delaware State (40 points) rounded out the five-team field. Jiminez,
a sophomore, opened with an 11-10 decision over Garrett Faulkner of York. He then
posted another one-point victory, this time an 8-7 decision over Mike Bookwalter
of York in the championship finals. Helms, who is ranked second this season
after placing third at the 2004 NCAA Division III Championships, had a first-round
bye before earing a 13-4 major decision over Drew Baldauf of York. The senior
then registered a 9-3 decision over Mike Berger of Montclair State in the finals. Tom
Becker (141), Eric Warbuton (165) and Caleb Churchwell (Hwt) each placed second
in their respective weight classes. Becker dropped a 14-7 decision to Myron Drayton
of Delaware State in the finals while Warbuton was pinned in 4:20 by Jerry Bowne
of York. Churchwell suffered a 4-1 loss to Zeb Davis of Delaware State in the
finals. |
